November 11, 2009 - On Saturday, November 7, 2009 the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, on a vote of 220-215. The bill, generally referred to as health care reform legislation, contains some provisions that are important to thalassemia patients.

November 9, 2009 - The Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF), the philanthropic arm of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), has presented CAF with a generous donation of almost $168,000, raised under the leadership of Carol DiTrapani, OSIA’s Immediate Past National Chairperson for Cooley's Anemia.

November 10, 2009 - At the recent 9th Cooley’s Anemia Symposium, representatives from CAF had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Mona Hamdy Mahmoud, Associate Professor of Pediatric Hematology at Cairo University in Egypt.  Dr. Mahmoud, who has worked in the thalassemia unit for 15 years, agreed to answer some questions about thalassemia in Egypt.
